Canine Assistants 1

By Martha Woodward

Canine Assistants is a non-profit organization founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 1991 by Jennifer Arnold for the purpose of training and providing service dogs to enhance and improve the lives of children and adults who have physical disabilities, seizure conditions or other special needs. When Arnold was a junior at Atlanta’s Lovett school, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which put her in a wheelchair and seriously disrupted her life. Remarkably, 2 1/2 years later, her symptoms went into remission. And today she is making sure that people with disadvantages  will have one advantage that she never did.

Electrical repairs at reasonable rates

By Martha Woodward

Need the name of a good electrician? One who will do good work for a reasonable fee? I found one, and boy, am I glad.Well, actually, my son met the man through his job, but I get to enjoy the savings. Ed Hurley, owner of Advanced Electric, Inc. of 1716 Sixth Avenue, has been working in the electrical business for over 35 years. He is licensed, bonded, and carries liability insurance. He will stop by your place and make an estimate on the cost of the job for free, but he does charge $100 for responding to emergencies. He does wiring, remodeling, installation of heaters, repairs, and anything you might need in the way of electrical needs. He has worked on new homes and spends a lot of time in older homes which are in need of electrical updating.

Helpful safety tips

Submitted by D. Corcoran

Here are some good tips to prevent a fire, or death if alternative heating sources are used. Fireplace: •Make sure you use a fire screen in front of your fire to keep embers from popping out causing a fire. •Keep at least a three foot air space in front of your fireplace. •Burn seasoned wood, don't burn green wood, green wood is more likely to create build up in your chimney that can later cause a chimney fire. •Make sure your flue works properly so the smoke goes up the chimney like it should. Power Outage: •Should the power go out, remember to turn off previously powered items, such as stoves, electric heaters. If the power is restored and no one is home, you don't want these appliances unattended.

Fashion icon

or murdering monster

Who was Che Guevara and should he be a fashion icon to the youth of America? Perhaps actors like Johnny Depp, who has been seen wearing Che's image on his clothing, and the Chief Librarian at the New York City Public Library, where a gold watch with Che's photo on the face and the world, "Revolution" inscribed on the back was for sale in the Gift Shop, need a real history lesson.
