Rob Mayfield, vice president of Mayfield Dairy Farms of Athens, Tennessee, recently received the 2008 Distinguished Service Award from the Tennessee Dairy Products Association. Each year, the award is given to a long-time dairy industry leader who is also active in their community. Mayfield grew up on the family farm, where his grandfather began processing milk and other dairy foods 85 years ago.
Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation (KCDC) recently honored 23 employees who have achieved service milestones during the past year. At the June board meeting, the employees received a special pin in recognition of this accomplishment and in gratitude for their dedication to KCDC. “It is only with the hard work and caring spirit of our employees that KCDC is able to reach our goals and realize our successes,” said Alvin Nance, KCDC executive director and CEO. “I am proud of these individuals and extremely grateful for their contributions to KCDC.”



 





Rose Center hires new executive director

When a friend heard about the search for an executive director by the historic Rose Center in Morristown, Tennessee, he suggested to Rip Lydick, President of the Knoxville Writers' Guild, that he apply for the position. Lydick did apply and was selected for what he declares is his dream job.

ORAU’s new Center for Science Education

Partners Development and Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) recently held a topping out ceremony for ORAU’s new Center for Science Education, located at 301 Raccoon Rd. in Oak Ridge, Tenn. At the ceremony, the last beam was placed at the highest point of the building, which signifies that the infrastructure is in place.  

Fifth Avenue Motel will be saved

Residents who are interested in historic preservation will be glad to know the Old Fifth Avenue Motel Building has received "historic designation" from the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Knox Co. Museum of Education History are accepting vistors between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Knoxville High School.

Tuesday, 22nd:

Cumberland County Playhouse will host auditions for it's production of "South Pacific" at 5 p.m.
