Post-traumatic stress expert
speaks at South College

One of the nation’s foremost experts on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder came to South College July 14 to speak to a group of students, law enforcers and firefighters. Dr. George Everly, co-founder of the International Critical Stress Foundation affiliated with the United Nations, is part of the faculty at Johns Hopkins University and serves as an adjunct faculty member for several federal agencies, including the FBI.
Amy Linn Schleter, a senior at Karns High School, recently completed the Governor’s School in Computational Physics at Austin Peay State University. Schleter was among 36 high school students in the program, held June 1-July 3. As a Governor’s School student taking two intensive courses, Schleter earned eight hours of college credit.

Beware of GED scams

The American Council on Education’s (ACE) General Education Development Testing Service™ (GEDTS) is warning of various entities claiming to offer GED exams online or through the mail. The GED credential cannot be earned via the Internet or through correspondence programs. The GED Tests, developed by GEDTS, require extensive preparation and the demonstration of a high level of high school knowledge and academic skills.

Area grants for the arts

State Representative Joe Armstrong of Knoxville has released the list of the Tennessee Arts Commission’s grant award recipients in House District 15 for Fiscal year 2009 (July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009). The grants, totaling $364,200, will benefit several Knoxville and surrounding area organizations.

Knoxville woman receives Presidential Award at South College

Walking across the stage to receive a college diploma is a major accomplishment for anyone. But for one Knoxville woman, simply walking across the stage is a big improvement from the way she spent much of her time in class in the last year.

Students honored for volunteer work

Students in the Physician Assistant program at South College are being recognized for their recent volunteer efforts with two nonprofits; Remote Area Medical and Mission of Hope.

Don’t get swamped by student loans

New Dean for UT Extension

Well known in agricultural circles across the state, Dr. Tim Cross has been named as Dean of University of Tennessee Extension.

WKXV will host it's 55th anniversary gospel concert at West High School at 6:30 p.m. 

Sunday, 20th:

A Civil War exhibition will be on display at the Smoky Mountains Heritage Center. 

Monday, 21st:

Knox Co. Museum of Education History are accepting vistors between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Knoxville High School.

Tuesday, 22nd:

Cumberland County Playhouse will host auditions for it's production of "South Pacific" at 5 p.m.
