SunTrust Bank, East Tennessee is the title sponsor of a first-of-its kind event in the Knoxville area to raise awareness of prostate cancer. All funds raised through THE MAN RUN for Prostate Cancer Awareness, will support free prostate cancer screenings and educational programs of The UTMC Cancer Institute.
The Hillcrest-Beverly Foundation recently awarded scholarships to seven Hillcrest employees who are studying to become registered nurses. The Foundation, a nonprofit which supports Hillcrest HealthCare, awarded the Marvin Jwill Weaver scholarships of up to $5,000 to Hillcrest employees who want to further their education and continue careers in the nursing profession. The program is named in honor of Weaver, longtime legal counsel for Hillcrest. “These are the people that mean everything to our residents and their families,” said Carolyn Pointer, president and CEO of Hillcrest HealthCare.

As gas prices go up, auto deaths drop

High gas prices could turn out to be a lifesaver for some drivers. The authors of a new study say gas prices are causing driving declines that could result in a third fewer auto deaths annually, with the most dramatic drop likely to be among teen drivers.

Center of Women and Children’s Health hires new vice president
