You may ask yourself if it is worth the three-hour drive to a little town outside of Nashville and wading through miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic just to go to a music festival.
But then again, this isn’t just any music festival, it’s bonnaroo.
This year’s festival will be held from June 12-15.
Music fans from around the country travel to Manchester for this one-of-a-kind festival that has something to offer just about everyone from punk to bluegrass, and even some comedy acts thrown in for good measure.
Centeroo is the main festival area.
Metalheads will be thrilled as head-banger heroes Metallica make an appearance.
Bluegrass, folk and country lovers will enjoy the crooning of Willie Nelson, Yonder Mountain String Band and Robert Plant with Alison Krauss.
Blues man B.B. King will bring the house down with his legendary smooth blues stylings.
Some of the other headliners include Widespread Panic, Pearl Jam, Umphrey’s McGee and Abigail Washburn & The Sparrow Quartet featuring Bela Fleck. This is only a small portion of the bonnaroo line-up, for a complete concert listing, check out www.bonnaroo.com.
Festival goers needing a laugh will want to check out the Comedy Tent for performances by Chris Rock, David Cross, Janeane Garofalo, Zach Galifianakis, Jim Norton, Brian Posehn, Mike Birbiglia, John Mulaney and Michelle Buteau. With such a diverse lineup, the will be something for everyone.
Part of the bonnaroo fun is camping out at the festival with a large group of friends. Anyone who plans to camp on the festival grounds can enter the parking lot and campground at 7 a.m. on June 12. Tents, vehicles, and anything in between will provide temporary shelter for a large portion of the concertgoers. The campground will close at 3 p.m. on June 16.
A special camping area is available for families with small children, and will feature amenities to make their experience more pleasant.
There will be plenty of fun activities to get away from Centeroo if the busy pace gets to be too intense, such as the following:
-Solar Stage in Planet Roo, a solar-powered stage featuring music, dance and interactive entertainment in an environmentally friendly atmosphere.
-Arcade Discotheque, a rockin’ arcade where festival goers can jam while playing Rock Band on an Xbox 360 and a big screen. More than 12 video game kiosks will be set up to allow guest to get their gaming fix. Plus this will serve as the night-time hotspot with awesome DJs and dancing.
•Salon Powered by Garnier Fructis will be the place to clean up when you start feeling a bit grungy during the festival; and there’s no better place to spiff up a little. Festival goers can relax, get their hair washed and styled and take free samples of Garnier Fructis products.
•bonnaroo Fountain & Market will give bonnarooers a chance to cool off and splash around in a 20-foot-lighted fountain to cool off, and then, spend some time shopping for the perfect souvenir.
•Sonic Village will feature intimate performances and interview sessions with artists.
•Kidz Jam will offer kids a place to experience music, culture and creativity. Parents must be present with their children.
•Yoga Classes will allow festival goers to unwind.
Ticket prices start at $209.50, and will gradually go up to $244.50 as the festival kick off date approaches. Plus a $22.95 service charge and shipping charges.
Tickets cover the four-day concert festival admission, camping and parking, except for RVs and other large vehicles. RV passes are $100. They will be shipped on May 28.
