Hillcrest awards scholarships

The Hillcrest-Beverly Foundation recently awarded scholarships to seven Hillcrest employees who are studying to become registered nurses.

The Foundation, a nonprofit which supports Hillcrest HealthCare, awarded the Marvin Jwill Weaver scholarships of up to $5,000 to Hillcrest employees who want to further their education and continue careers in the nursing profession. The program is named in honor of Weaver, longtime legal counsel for Hillcrest.

“These are the people that mean everything to our residents and their families,” said Carolyn Pointer, president and CEO of Hillcrest HealthCare. “This scholarship program is just one way the Foundation helps fulfill our mission to provide the best care available to our residents.”

This year’s recipients are Miranda Corum, Sundra Curry, Joy Epps, Jeannie Hannah, Crystal Lewallen, Tonya Jefferson and Janelle Nance.

All seven of the recipients are currently on the staff at Hillcrest and are pursuing their RN degrees. Hillcrest recently revised its staffing requirements to place registered nurses on duty 24 hours a day at each of its three facilities in Knox County.
