From the patient’s viewpoint, images are obtained in a similar fashion to traditional mammography, however, they are stored in a digital format rather than on film. Since the images are immediately available, the amount of time a patient spends in the breast center is significantly reduced. High-resolution computer monitors allow us to enhance the images and closely evaluate areas that may be suspicious for early breast cancer. In addition, CAD or Computer-Aided Detection provides a “second read” of the images.
